Applications for entry to the BA (Hons) in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre and BA (Hons) in Commercial Dance will open soon.

 

Applying to Urdang is different to other undergraduate courses so please read the below steps carefully. These steps explain the application and audition process as well as how UCAS fits in. There is no fee to audition at Urdang for any student.

1 – Register online

From October 2025 you can start your application for 2026 entry.

If you are using a computer or laptop click the New Registration Star in the ribbon at the top of the page.

If you are using a smartphone click the drop down menu top right and select New Registration.

You will be emailed an activation link, so do check your spam and junk folders for this. You can then go straight to part 3 of the process below.

We recommend you use a personal email, not one issued by your school or college or under someone else’s name.

2 – Follow instructions from your school/college to complete your UCAS application

Your application for entry in September 2026 should arrive at UCAS between September 2025 and 14 January 2026, so you can apply to Urdang BEFORE you have submitted your UCAS form.

Applications that arrive after the UCAS deadline will still be considered until further notice. We will publish any further deadlines on the website.

Once you have made your UCAS application and you have completed the audition process, offer-holders will also receive an official offer letter from City St George’s, University of London with the academic conditions of your offer via email and your UCAS record will be updated.

Please use the same name for both your UCAS and Urdang applications.

3 – Complete the Urdang application form

Once registered, you will be able to complete the online application form with your personal details and upload the requested headshot. This does not have to be a professional photograph. We will be in touch with all applicants when applications go live. Please select your first choice of course as this will determine what you have to video for us.

4 – Receive an email with audition instructions

Once you have applied, we will email you details of what to prepare and how to submit. You can of course start work on these BEFORE you have applied to save time. You will have a choice of submission dates for uploading your video to us.

BA (HONS) DANCE AND MUSICAL THEATRE

  • A brief introduction to who you are and why you’ve applied to Urdang (max 1 minute)
  • Two contrasting dance routines of your choice in any discipline (max 90 seconds per routine)
  • Two contrasting songs of your choice (max 2 minutes per song, you can use cut versions)
  • One monologue from any stage or screen play (max 2 minutes).

BA (HONS) COMMERCIAL DANCE

  • A brief introduction to who you are and why you’ve applied to Urdang (max 1 minute)
  • One solo commercial dance routine of your choice (max 90 seconds)
  • One solo jazz, street, lyrical or contemporary routine of your choice (max 90 seconds).
4a – Guidance on how to make your audition videos

We have created some easy–to–follow video guides to help you make your audition videos, including lots of advice from our staff and students.

1. How to make your dance video (opens in a new window, 18 minute YouTube video)

  • Two contrasting solo routines of your choice, these can be contrasting styles or disciplines. You may choose to follow the example given in our video for one and choose choreography for the other or choose the choreography for both.

2. How to make your singing video (opens in a new window, 30 second YouTube video)

  • Two contrasting songs of your choice (musical theatre or rock/pop).

3. How to make your acting video (opens in a new window, 30 second YouTube video)

  • One monologue from a stage or screen play (from any genre) that is age appropriate. We recommend a maximum of two minutes.

Points to remember

Please ensure you:

  • Record your material in a safe and well-lit space.
  • Record in landscape mode.
  • Edit the videos together using iMovie, CapCut or similar software.
  • Upload the video to YouTube as an unlisted video.
5 – Confirm your submission date

Confirm you will submit your video by logging into your Urdang account. We cannot process your application without this. 

6 – Submit your videos

Please upload your videos to YouTube as ONE unlisted video (not public or private) in the order set out above in point 4. Then log back into your account to submit the YouTube link to us. Incomplete or late applications may be rejected.

7 – Receive confirmation if your audition was successful or unsuccessful or if you have a recall

Urdang will aim to confirm by email within 14 days whether your video audition was successful, unsuccessful or if you have been recalled.

Recall auditions will be in person for UK-based applicants for 2026 entry. 

8 – If you have been recalled, select your recall date

Urdang will aim to offer a choice of dates and recalls will run between December 2025 and April 2026, usually on Wednesdays.

9 – If you have been offered a place at Urdang, log in and provisionally accept or decline your place

Please log in to the Urdang website to provisionally accept or decline your place as soon as possible OR tell us you need more time to consider.

This is in order for us to manage the limited spaces we have on each course. You will also be asked to complete a short and confidential medical questionnaire. There is no deposit to pay.

10 – Log into UCAS to accept or decline your place

You must accept or decline your place on UCAS or select us as your insurance place. Please note you will not be able to do so until all your other results have been announced or you have withdrawn them.

Once you have accepted your place on UCAS the university will email you details of how to apply for accommodation.

Conditional offers will become unconditional once the required grades are achieved.

11 – Apply for Student Finance (UK/Republic of Ireland (ROI) only)

UK and ROI passport holders who can prove 3 years residency in those countries can apply for an annual tuition fee loan to cover all fees from March 2026. Mean-tested maintenance loans are available to UK applicants.
