You will learn how to become a self-sufficient creative practitioner capable of sustaining a long and varied career, both as a leader and manager. You will acquire the skills to think strategically and plan effectively, create and analyse business plans, interpret financial and accounting documents, and develop your creative ideas and projects from inception to finished products.

Teaching and learning

Your learning will be practical, hands-on and directly influenced by your own interests.

Through your elective module choices you can deepen your knowledge of areas such as marketing and audience analytics.

You will also complete an Independent Project under the supervision of an expert, who will help you mould your specific interests in the professional field of performing arts management into the shape of an applied research project or a practice-based portfolio.

Alongside our in-house experts, guest speakers from the professional industry regularly teach classes on modules or offer programme-wide workshops. Lectures and seminars are interactive, involving simulations and role plays.

Module assessments are authentic and based on real-world case studies or industry briefs, providing you with hands-on experience.

Your career

This programme is designed to empower graduates to undertake a variety of management and leadership positions within the performing arts industry, including roles as producers, directors, choreographers, musical directors, event managers, theatre school owners, and agents.

Moreover, it will cultivate skills essential for graduates to effectively manage and sustain self-employment as freelance creatives or as managers within creative organisations.

First or second class honours degree (or international equivalent) in any subject.

We also welcome applicants with industry experience in the performing arts including theatre, music, performance and choreography.

If you are an applicant whose first language is not English, the following qualifications are required:

  • IELTS: Overall score 6.5 and a minimum of 5.5 in each subset
  • TOEFL test with a score of at least 90, with a minimum of 17 in Listening, 18 in Reading, 17 in Writing and 20 in Speaking.

Fees for academic year 2026/27 for Master of Arts (MA) full-time per year:

You will need to submit:

  • A completed application form (either electronically or by post).
  • A certified copy of your undergraduate academic results and degree certificate. If you have not yet finished your course, please provide a provisional transcript of marks received to date. You will be required to send us your degree transcript as soon as it is available.
  • Proof of English proficiency (if you are not a native English speaker, or someone who has not been taught in English for your first-degree subject).
  • A personal statement of around 500 words on your academic and relevant professional experience to date and how it informs your intention to undertake this course. In addition, you may wish to outline your vision for how the degree will feed into your professional career. You will need to
    make sure your statement is specific to our course and institution, and not generic. You may be asked to provide further details if your statement is too generic.
  • Academic references are not required when you submit your application. However, the admissions tutor may request them at a later date to help make a decision on your application.
